Varsity Boys Soccer: Duarte's dream season continues for Fort Lee

Coach Demba Mane and Fort Lee are heading to the Bergen County Quarterfinals

The best chances of the day started with Duarte.

He hit the post just a few minutes in, the first of many opportunities he set up for himself and his teammates.

Duarte redirected a free kick for the first Fort Lee goal, then passed to Alkerd Nushi for the insurance tally late in the second half.

“He’s a special player,” coach Demba Mane said of Duarte. “It’s his work ethic. He works extremely hard. It’s his ability to take players on and his soccer IQ. He really, really is a student of a game.”

“[Until this season], I felt like as much as he was contributing, it wasn’t showing the type of player he is. He has aspirations of playing on the next level and he is capable of playing at the next level. He has the potential. For schools to take him seriously, you have to have stats. I could say he’s great. But stats speak volumes.”

Fort Lee (10-0) may have gotten a clearer path with the upset of second-seeded Pascack Valley.

The Bridgemen will host Glen Rock instead next Sunday at 11 a.m.

“We can’t just stay happy with this,” Alex Gegechkori said. “We want to win."
