Dear Fort Lee Families,

As of Friday, December 11, the northeast region of New Jersey remains in the high level on the COVID-19 Activity Level Index  (CALI)  report.

The Fort Lee School District’s staff has done an outstanding job of maintaining the safety of the school buildings and adhering to the protocols with the students and staff. We have been very fortunate  that the number of positive Covid cases related to in-school transmission has been very low.

Despite these efforts, the number of cases in the community and Bergen County continue to increase.  The number of district students and staff affected, either by illness or exposure has increased accordingly. The school district is experiencing an increasing number of staff subject to quarantine guidelines.

Based on the increase in community cases, staffing issues and the forecasted storm, a decision has been made for all Fort Lee Schools to switch to full remote instruction for Thursday, December 17 and Friday, December 18. All of the Fort Lee Schools will remain in full remote instruction for Monday, December 21, Tuesday, December 22 and Wednesday, December 23. On Monday, January 4, 2021, all schools will resume full remote instruction. On the following Monday, January 11, 2021, all schools will return to the hybrid model of instruction. You will receive more information from the school Principals.

I realize that there are different views of this decision. I am sorry for any inconvenience or hardships that this may cause for families. The decision was made in the best interest of the district’s students and staff. I am hopeful that this decision will increase the safety and health of all involved.

This decision is subject to change dependent on information received from the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), Fort Lee Health Department and the Department of Education (NJDOE), as well as, the pandemic situation in the region.

The Fort Lee Public School district continues to have regular communication with the Fort Lee Health Department regarding any/all cases of Covid -19 connected to the school’s students and staff.

I encourage you to adhere to public health guidelines to help mitigate the spread of the virus and reduce the COVID activity level. Please continue to wear masks and social distance.

I hope that you and your family enjoy a healthy and safe holiday season.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Rota

Superintendent of Schools
